Stay the Course – 7 Tips To Help You Refocus Your Goals & Get Back On Track

By this time with COVID, many of us might be feeling the burden of creating lofty goals and undelivered results. The response by many is simply to give up… throw in the towel… with thoughts that there must be something wrong with us or are we just not adapting to our new workplace environment. Although new beginnings can be marked by the beginning of changes, we can choose to start a new beginning each and every time we fall by choosing to get back up. Rather than abandon your goals, here are our top 7 tips to help you re-focus and get back on track.

1. Look at the failure as a set-back, understanding that set-backs are always part of a journey towards attaining your goals and an opportunity to learn and move even faster. Take some time to reflect on what was behind the set-back and make adjustments to your plan. The path to success is rarely a straight line and you can take the experience and become stronger each time you decide to get back up. Remember that the word FAIL is the acronym for First Attempt In Learning.

2. Break down your goal into smaller attainable goals, creating a momentum that brings you closer with each step. When we celebrate what we have accomplished, big or small, it fires us up to keep going. Set yourself up for a quick win and don’t think too far ahead.

3. You don’t have to do this alone. Ask for help by finding sources of support such as people who have traveled your journey and had success. Find an online group, online community, or online friends where you can network and ask questions and get great suggestions to lessen your falls.

4. Remember what is really important to you. Yes, reaching your goal is obviously important but before you go into a negative downward spiral, remember what’s really important and be grateful for them. Start your day off by giving thanks for the things that went right, manifesting more good things for yourself each and every day.

5. Use a positive visualization to train your brain and focus your thinking. Visualize yourself achieving your goal. Feel what it would be like achieving it and then spend your day walking around like you have already met your goal.

6. Take stock of your many gifts and embrace them. Ask yourself how those gifts can help you achieve your goal rather than focusing on what you’re not so good at. Leverage the positive by finding people who are not as far along in your journey as you are and help them. If you are having trouble identifying your gifts, they will help you.

7. Have faith. You are where you are meant to be at this place in your journey. Live in the present and remember that success is just around the corner. Many give up too soon, just short of taking the step that launches them towards the last defining moment that brings happiness.

You cannot make a change in your life if you keep doing the same thing. A definition of insanity we have all heard is “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result”. Don’t give up… make a change, no matter how big, and know that no one is holding you back but yourself.
